Tumor evolution in a marriage between computation and biology

An educated layperson hearing the word “cancer” will probably think of cells growing out of control, which is a good start, although an incomplete picture. But if out-of-control growth creates related metaphors, then perhaps comparing tumors to weeds or invasive species, the simple focus can help people understand an important, if not always emphasized, facet of cancer—evolution.
